The ship, which was attacked on Thursday, is suspected of smuggling drugs, according to the US Southern Command.
It is still unclear how many people were on board the vessel.
Since the beginning of September last year, the United States has carried out repeated attacks on suspected smuggling vessels in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean.
