The woman, who is testifying in the Lund District Court on Wednesday, says that the man known as the Nytorgsman asked to speak to his investigator and she would hand over a phone to him through a hatch to his detention cell.

– When I open it, he has undressed, is masturbating, and is looking me in the eyes, she says.

A surveillance film presented during the trial shows the woman opening the hatch and quickly closing it again.

”Flung open”

The incident occurred at the end of January at the detention center in Helsingborg. The Nytorgsman denies any wrongdoing and claims that he put on after a workout when the hatch to his cell suddenly “flung open”.

I said I changed clothes and didn’t think there was anything more to it.

The Nytorgsman, who is wearing black soft clothes and dark blue training shoes, appears calm and collected. He sits leaning forward with his arms crossed and explains that he always changes clothes in a way that “minimizes the risk” of seeing him naked.

I have difficulties standing up and changing. The only way for me to change is to sit on the bed edge and try to cover myself with a towel. I am also used to the correctional officers knocking before entering so that one has time to get dressed, he says.

Charged with multiple crimes

The Nytorgsman is charged with a number of other crimes, including aggravated rape and sexual assault against children.

He previously lived at Nytorget in Stockholm, where he, in his home, filmed rapes, sexual assaults, and harassments of sleeping or unconscious women. The crimes were uncovered when the police went through his phone due to suspicion of drug offenses.

He was sentenced to five years in prison but was released on parole after serving two-thirds of his sentence – despite repeated misconduct during his imprisonment and the risk of reoffending being assessed as high.

The new suspicions of crime concern events during his parole.
