The coronavirus has broken out during the Tour de France.
Mark Cavendish's teammate Michael Mørkøv has tested positive for covid-19 and has been stopped by team Astana.
Dane Michael Mørkøv will not start in the twelfth stage between Aurillac and Villeneuve-sur-Lot after two positive tests, one on Wednesday evening and one on Thursday morning.
"Although he feels well and has no clear symptoms, the medical team has made the decision to stop the cyclist. First and foremost to protect his health from the long-term effects that the virus can cause in the future", writes team Astana on its website.
Teammate and sprint specialist Mark Cavendish, who has taken a stage win this year but is far behind in the overall standings, thus loses an important helper.
When Cavendish wrote Tour de France history last week with his 35th stage win, more than anyone else, Mørkøv was an important cog in the wheel.
