The legislation means, among other things, that cultural creators shall have the right to fair compensation and information about future income when they assign their copyrights. 14 out of 15 national cultural creators' organizations surveyed by KLYS said the provisions had no or very limited impact.
The current law was adopted by the European Parliament in 2019 and entered into force in Sweden on January 1, 2023.
"It is clear that the new copyright regulations have not had the intended effect for cultural creators, despite the directive's stated purpose of strengthening them," says Ulrica Källén, operations manager for KLYS, in a press release.
