When Klassikern in P1 did a report on De Geer’s artwork, it turned out that some copies of the graphic suite still exist, including the image of a burning Swedish flag with a “cock” painted on top.
The art was seized by the police in 1967, and Carl Johan De Geer was fined under the law at the time for insulting a national symbol and inciting sedition. He never got his artwork back.
I was only told that they had been confiscated and that I could not get them back because it would be a criminal act for me to have them. But I was extremely sad and, first of all, enormously surprised. This thing shakes me, the whole thing, Carl Johan De Geer tells Kulturnytt in P1.
Since then, the law has changed, and he would now like to get the remaining works of art back.
However, the director of the Police Museum, Henrik Lindborg, does not know why the art was never destroyed or whether the artist can get it back.
He emphasizes that “the legal aspects” need to be clarified. According to Lindborg, the works are part of Swedish cultural heritage, which the museum would be interested in telling people about.
