Rentokil has been commissioned by the Municipality of Copenhagen to identify, vacuum up and then burn the oak processionary moth - or the “caterpillar from hell” as it has come to be called in the Danish media, referring to its hairs that can cause intense itching and strong allergic reactions.
The removal efforts began a week ago and were expected to take up to three weeks.
"It's been going really, really well. We actually finished the nests that we can access today," says Claus Schultz, technical manager at Rentokil.
The service company has identified an additional 28 nests, but they are difficult to access and require extra planning.
"Right now we are considering what the best solution is," says Schultz.
