It was 2023 when information emerged that a male nurse in home care was suspected of sexually assaulting two elderly men. The man was immediately dismissed and later convicted, despite denying the allegations, by the Borås District Court for two cases of sexual assault.

However, before the verdict was handed down, the man was employed as a substitute by the Västra Götaland Region, where he managed to cause another serious incident – before he was fired from there as well.

Ulrika Dahl Eriksson, HR manager at Närhälsan in the region, tells GP that she regards the incident as deeply unfortunate, but believes that the recruitment process routines were followed.

We made extracts from the criminal records, but since the verdict was not available, we did not find it, which is very unfortunate. We also took references and nothing came up then, she says.
