The man convicted of the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is appealing his life sentence, his lawyer told AFP.
The shooter was sentenced in January. A life sentence in Japan means he could be released on parole, but experts say many people serving life sentences die in prison.
Abe was shot dead during a campaign rally in 2022. He was prime minister of Japan for two terms, 2006–2007 and 2012–2020.
