Babcock was cleared to return to the league just a few days ago when the NHL gave the go-ahead after an investigation requested by the players' union, the NHL Players' Association (NHLPA).
Babcock's most recent stint, in Columbus in 2023, lasted only a short time; he resigned without playing a game after asking players to share their personal photos "to get to know them."
Several players, including former national team star Johan Franzén, have openly told how they were bullied by the now 63-year-old Babcock.
"I was terrified to be on the ice. He is a terrible person. The worst I have ever met," Franzén told Expressen.
Babcock led Detroit to a Stanley Cup victory in 2008 and led Canada to Olympic gold in 2010 and 2014.
