Nearly 6,200 people were given notice of layoffs in October, which compares to almost 5,700 in the same month last year, according to statistics from the Swedish Public Employment Service.
357,000 people were registered as unemployed, which is fewer than the same month last year. This means that unemployment has fallen from 6.9 to 6.8 percent.
But the Swedish Public Employment Service is unsure whether the statistics are comparable with previous figures because the new unemployment insurance fund that was introduced on October 1 affects the figures.
