Connor McDavid breaks records held by Mark Messier and Wayne Gretzky in Oilers win

Edmonton's Connor McDavid may be in the form of his life. In last night's game against the New York Rangers, he broke records held by two NHL legends.

It may not have been the records he was primarily aiming for, but in last night's 4–1 win, Connor McDavid eclipsed a legendary name.

It took just 50 seconds for McDavid to break Mark Messier's club record for the most goals in the first minute. Edmonton's star put on a fine solo performance, scoring his eighth goal in the opening minute of a game.

Halfway through the second period, McDavid was at it again, assisting on Evan Bouchard's goal to make it 3–0. He thus became the fastest player to reach 30 assists in a season, doing so in 15 games - one game faster than Wayne Gretzky in 1984.

Edmonton has made a convincing start to the season and leads the Western Conference standings. The Rangers, on the other hand, have struggled. Last night's loss was their fourth straight.
