The death toll after the boat accident in Congo-Kinshasa earlier in the week has risen to 148, according to Congolese authorities. More than 100 people are still missing.
The accident occurred on Tuesday when a fire broke out on the motorboat, which was made of wood and was traveling on the Congo River in the northwestern part of the country. Some of the approximately 500 passengers, including children, drowned when they jumped into the water without being able to swim.
Dozens were rescued after the accident, many of them with severe burns.
