The actual number of prisoners released is only around 60-70, according to the Venezuelan organization Foro Penal, which provides legal support for prisoners.
It was last week that Jorge Rodríguez, who, in addition to being president, is also the brother of interim president Delcy Rodríguez, said that Venezuela would release "a large number of prisoners."
Among those released so far is former Venezuelan presidential candidate Enrique Márquez. On Tuesday local time, the country also began releasing several Americans, according to US authorities, AFP reports.
Foro Penal has previously stated that there are over 800 political prisoners in Venezuela, including 175 military personnel.
