In a press release, the foundation announces that a settlement has been reached in a dispute in which chairman Erik af Klint wanted the paintings placed in a temple and not displayed publicly, while other board members disagreed.

"Hilma af Klint's work is a Swedish cultural treasure with international recognition and should continue to be shared with the world," said Erik af Klint in the press release.

The foundation has long struggled with internal disputes. Among other things, af Klint has claimed that a clause in the board's statutes saying that the art should only be shown to "those seeking spiritual knowledge" means that it should not be shown publicly at all. When he sought to replace the other board members last year, his request was rejected by the district court.

The County Administrative Board also reviewed the foundation and concluded that continuing to display Hilma af Klint's more than 1,300 paintings is consistent with the statutes.

Hilma af Klint (1862–1944) was relatively unknown during her lifetime, but had an international breakthrough in the 1980s, long after her death, and is now considered a pioneer in abstract art.
