Among those who have backed Delgado Varas are both grassroots supporters and several prominent names within the Left.

A petition in support of Delgado Varas has so far gathered 955 signatures, including those of Tove Karnerud, chairperson in Malmö. Eighteen party associations have also signed, among others Falun, Södertälje, Fagersta, and many Stockholm associations.

Riksdagsledamoten Daniel Riazat is among the most outspoken critics. In a Facebook post, he calls the treatment of Lorena Delgado Varas "one of the greatest scandals in our party's history".

"Angry and sad"

Riksdagsledamoten Hanna Gunnarsson is also protesting.

"I am incredibly angry, sad, upset, and sorrowful about the PS's decision", she writes on Facebook.

"Lorena is needed, her voice and activism are and should be part of our party and our movement. And no. Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, or racism is acceptable. Neither Lorena nor I are anti-Semites", she writes.

Former party leader Lars Ohly and former Riksdagsledamoten Rossana Dinamarca have also joined the fight on Delgado Varas' side.

Party secretary Maria Forsberg does not want to say anything more, referring to her statements from Saturday: That Lorena Delgado Varas cannot remain in the Riksdag, but that she can continue to be a party member.

"I hope that when she has had time to digest the party board's decision, it will land better and that she respects what the party has come to", she said then.

"Never spreads anti-Semitism"

At the same time, several prominent left-wing politicians have backed the party board's decision. Among others, EU parliamentarian and former party leader Jonas Sjöstedt.

"The Left Party is stone-hard critics of Israel's occupation of Palestine and the genocide in Gaza. But we never spread anti-Semitism. That boundary has not been held by Lorena Delgado. She has also shown great political recklessness on several occasions. Then you are unfit as a representative of our party", he writes on Bluesky.

In Flamman, Riksdagsledamoten Karin Rågsjö calls her party colleague a skilled politician, but says that Delgado Varas and those who support her lack understanding of anti-Semitism.

We would never accept the same racism against blacks, Roma, or Sami. So why is it okay against Jews?, she wonders in the newspaper.

Former V-profiles Ali Esbati and Ulla Andersson also agree.

TT has been in contact with several people on Sunday, both among critics and within the party leadership, but no one has wanted to comment.

On April 8, the Jewish Central Council reported Left Party member Lorena Delgado Varas, Riksdagsledamot and member of the party board, for incitement against a ethnic group after she shared a post that, among other things, claimed that "Zionist Jews" control countries through control over politics and banks.

Delgado Varas took a break from her political assignments during the investigation.

On April 22, the prosecutor in the case announced that the investigation would be dropped. He accepted Delgado Varas' explanation that she had missed the anti-Semitic message in the image when she shared the image, which contained criticism.

According to the newspaper Världen idag, Delgado Varas has also "liked" both anti-Semitic comments and hateful comments directed at Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M).

After a meeting with the V party board, Delgado Varas was urged to leave her political assignments on May 2. According to the party secretary, Delgado Varas has failed in her judgment on several occasions.

On Saturday, Lorena Delgado Varas announced that she refuses to leave the Riksdag.
