On Monday, it was a Swedish defeat with 0-3 against already clear group winner Netherlands. Something that meant that the U21 men had to put their hopes on North Macedonia on Tuesday evening.

In vain.

Georgia turned the underdog and won 2-1 against North Macedonia. Thus, the Swedish dream of a U21 European Championship in Slovakia next summer is over.

Sweden has now missed four consecutive editions of the U21 European Championship. The last time the national team participated was in Poland in 2017. Two years before that, in 2015, Sweden won gold in the Czech Republic.
