Halmstad is last in the Allsvenskan with two points from six matches.
Stuart Baxter left Halmstad in 1991 - and now he is back as coach at the club.
"Returning to HBK after all these years naturally evokes strong emotions. But I'm not here for us to get lost in nostalgia for the past," Baxter tells the club's website.
Chairman Pelle Nilsson is satisfied with the coaching solution:
"Stuart Baxter brings weight and international authority that few other coaches in the Nordic region can match."
Baxter has previously coached AIK and Helsingborg, among others.
