The knee injury is too severe for Swiss alpine star Lara Gut-Behrami to recover in time for the Olympics in Milan-Cortina in February. Now the Swiss Ski Association says the 34-year-old Olympic gold medalist in super-G will not compete.

Gut-Behrami fell during super-G training in the US and damaged ligaments and the meniscus in her left knee. She was immediately sent home to Switzerland for further tests and will undergo surgery next week.

The reigning Olympic champion in super-G has previously announced that this season will be her last. A decision she may reconsider due to the injury. The veteran has suffered a cruciate ligament injury earlier in her career.

Gut-Behrami has won both Olympic and World Cup gold medals during his career and has taken 48 World Cup victories.

She finished third in the giant slalom premiere in the World Cup in Sölden.
