Confidence in United - Injury Crisis in City

Manchester City is experiencing its worst injury crisis under Pep Guardiola's time as manager. On the other side of Manchester, United is seeing a new dawn after Ruud van Nistelrooy's successful start as temporary manager. I am here to help the club build for the future, he says.

Relief, joy, and a belief that the big club has taken a step forward and upward.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Dutchman who scored goals for United during his time as a striker, sensed the atmosphere at Old Trafford after the 5–2 win over Leicester in the League Cup quarterfinals.

The players' reaction was excellent. They deserve praise for a fine win and I'm glad the crowd is going home after a pleasant evening of football, says van Nistelrooy at the press conference.

Remaining for a few weeks?

Erik ten Hag finally left the club at the beginning of the week. Rúben Amorim is pointed out as his replacement, but Sporting Lisbon's 39-year-old coach is not expected to be available until at least after the international break in a few weeks.

This means that van Nistelrooy will lead United in the Premier League against Chelsea at the weekend and in a few more matches.

I'll help out as long as it's needed, he says.

Meanwhile, Manchester City is on its knees. The league leader's already long injury list was filled with a few more names after the 1–2 loss to Tottenham on Wednesday evening. Central defender Manuel Akanji broke down during the warm-up and winger Savinho was carried out on a stretcher in the second half. Previously, among others, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, Jeremy Doku, and Oscar Bobb were injured.

"In real difficulties"

We have 13 players. We are in real difficulties, but we must strive. In nine years, I have never had so many injuries for so many reasons. I believe that when we are in trouble, the players take a step forward. They are more united than ever, says Guardiola.

This weekend, Bournemouth awaits Manchester City in the Premier League.
