Since the "Zero Vision" project was launched in 2019 – a collaboration between the association, the Swedish elite leagues and the players' union – the number of concussions in men's SHL, for example, has decreased by 73 percent.

Morgan Johansson, responsible for player safety at the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and one of the driving forces behind the work, sees several possible reasons for the development:

"I believe the main reason is a higher awareness among players, combined with us being tougher in our assessments when it comes to players' intentions in potentially hazardous situations," says Johansson in a press release.
