The Swedish Customs Agency warns that criminals are hijacking reputable companies to smuggle cannabis from North America to Sweden, reports Sveriges Radio Ekot.

The criminals use email addresses similar to the companies' real ones and then exploit their import permits for drug smuggling.

The only thing you need to know is how an import is done, and it's not that difficult to find out, says Mikael Lindgren at the Swedish Customs to the radio.

So far, the authority has identified around 20 affected companies.

The call to companies that may be exploited or have any form of trade with the US is to be vigilant. If you receive a package or invoice that is not yours, contact customs or the police, says Mikael Lindgren.

Interest in the cannabis market in North America has grown among Swedish criminals.

First, it is legal in the US and Canada and second, it is likely much, much cheaper.
