Preserving grandstand culture - or zealous and exclusionary? The announcement of Como's new regulations has sparked debate in Italy, reports The Guardian.

The club justifies the rules by saying that demand for tickets far exceeds the number of seats in the home stadium and that “genuine Como supporters” should therefore be given priority. To miss a fourth match, a “valid reason” for the absence must be presented in advance.

The club management has also banned the wearing of opposing team shirts and scarves anywhere in the stadium other than in the away section.

Como played in Serie D in the 2018/2019 season and have been responsible for a spectacular journey through the league system since then. Last season, the team finished fourth in Serie A and secured a place in the Champions League.
