The Argentine, a former celebrated player in Columbus and brother of former striker Gonzalo Higuaín, is being forced out because he has not lived up to the standards Columbus expects of its leaders, the club writes in a press release.
The background is that Federico Higuaín, during a match in the MLS development league, the North American soccer league, refused to let go of a female referee's hand while saying:
Don't forget that this is a sport for men.
The incident resulted in a red card and a two-match suspension.
According to The Athletic, Higuaín did not want to take any responsibility for his actions, and he also refused to apologise publicly.
