Colorado had won almost every other game in the opening games of the NHL season. After beating Dallas earlier in the week, the team lost the rematch tonight.
Swedish captain Gabriel Landeskog put the home team ahead in the second period, but the score was 2–2 at the end of regulation, sending the game to overtime and a shootout.
Three misses by Colorado in the shootout gave Dallas the extra point.
