All train traffic between Luleå and Narvik has been cancelled due to extreme cold. According to SMHI, temperatures along parts of the route are expected to be around minus 33 degrees Celsius or lower.

Then it is not safe to run trains, and the Swedish Transport Administration recommends that we cancel the service, says SJ's press officer Peter Kremaeus.

Train services will be completely cancelled on Friday and Saturday, and no replacement buses will be deployed.

The road between Narvik and Kiruna, in particular, is exposed to a lot of wind, so driving there is not without risk, says Peter Kremaeus.

SJ is following SMHI's forecasts and will make a new assessment of the situation on Saturday.

This is a situation that is constantly changing, so it's most uncertain for Sunday, says Peter Kremaeus.
