Things are now calmer on the weather front. After a week of orange and red snow warnings, Sweden can look forward to a sunny - albeit cold - weekend.

The weather this weekend looks to be considerably calmer than last week. Basically the entire country will experience freezing temperatures, and in many places it will be clear and sunny.

In northern Norrland it will be very cold, with temperatures down to -30 degrees Celsius, locally -40 degrees Celsius. It will also be cold in central and southern Norrland, where hundreds of households are still without power.

"Those without electricity will probably have a difficult time," says Max Schildt, meteorologist at SMHI.

The cold in central Norrland is, however, somewhat mitigated by an area of snowfall. Öland and Gotland look set to get wind and snow showers, which may also move in over the Götaland mainland and eastern Svealand.

"It will be windy, especially on Saturday afternoon and Sunday," says Schildt.

Those who want to enjoy the sunny winter weather should hurry. Next week the clouds return with milder air, wind and precipitation, which in southern Sweden may fall as rain.

"You can take advantage of this weekend," says Max Schildt.
