The specialty coffee cheese has been approved in the EU's register of products with protected designation of origin.
"Traditionally cut into small pieces and placed in hot coffee, it is enjoyed warm, where its soft texture and delicate flavor are enhanced", it says, among other things, in a press release from the EU Commission.
Coffee cheese is a fresh cheese made from non-homogenized milk from reindeer, goat or cow. It is produced in the northern regions of Sweden: Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Lappland, Jämtland, Härjedalen and Ångermanland, the press release states.
In total, there are now over 3,600 protected products in the EU's register.
