At the end of July, it was announced that the WTA, the women's professional tennis tour, would follow the International Olympic Committee and the International Ski Federation and introduce gender tests for players competing on the tour.

"It's a very nuanced question," said double Grand Slam winner Gauff, according to NBC News.

The 22-year-old understands the desire to have a sportingly fair tour, but thinks the sport is being used as a scapegoat by people who don't really follow it.

"I dislike the backlash this is causing - people who don't really care, but just want to use this as a reason to attack the trans community," says Gauff.
