One person has been detained and three have been detained after the large cocaine seizure in Malmö on Sunday, according to the Prosecution Authority. The cocaine is believed to have been smuggled into Sweden through the port of Helsingborg.

The more than 200 kilograms of cocaine that were seized were found by chance in a Malmö apartment after a burglary alarm from the public.

Now the seizure is being linked to an event at the Helsingborg harbour, where a banana wholesaler's container was illegally checked out and picked up by a foreign truck driver shortly after unloading.

The container was returned the next day, but with the seal broken. In the cargo space, there was a large empty space that, according to the Prosecution Authority, "testified that something had been removed from the container".

In connection with the seizure, the police arrested five people, and three of them are now detained. Another person is remanded in custody, suspected of handling the container.

The cocaine seizure is one of the largest in Malmö ever. The narcotics have, according to Sydsvenskan, a street value of over 225 million kronor.
