Over one ton of cocaine has been seized in connection with a police raid on a private boat along Australia's east coast, the country's police report.
Two men, 25 and 26 years old, were arrested on board the boat, which was loaded with over 1,000 cocaine blocks whose street value is estimated at nearly 3.9 billion kronor, according to the police. Three more men were arrested in two vehicles on land, about four miles away.
The police launched their investigation after a tip that the boat had been bought for over three million kronor in cash. The raid then took place at sea, nine nautical miles from land. The origin of the cocaine is still being investigated.
Criminal networks often exploit Australia's extensive coastline to smuggle drugs into the country, according to the police.
