It was on the first of August 2024 that the suspected murder took place and the Swedish Maritime Administration's rescue helicopter was reached by a sailing boat that alerted with "mayday, mayday man overboard", the newspaper writes.
We lay down and hover at a height of 30-40 meters and see a person in the water waving 50 meters from the sailing boat. When we get closer, I see that the person is holding onto another guy, that there are two people down there. One of them is under water, and I think it looks strange, says Carl Tengblad, captain of the Swedish Maritime Administration's rescue helicopter to Aftonbladet.
In a large rescue effort, the man who, according to Tengblad, was under water, could be winched up from the sea. The man, who was also a German citizen, was taken to hospital by ambulance helicopter, but his life could not be saved. The other man was suspected of murder on probable grounds. He has since been prosecuted for murder.
By pure chance, the Coast Guard's plane was in the vicinity of the incident and it has since emerged that the plane's crew filmed the suspected murder.
The worst is for the crew of the Coast Guard plane who sat and watched without being able to do anything. They have been lying there for half an hour and watching this. They have a camera on board that can zoom in on a stamp from 1,000 meters height, so they have a detailed film of the whole thing, says Tengblad to the newspaper.
