Sales in clothing stores were cautious in October, writes the Swedish Trade Association in a press release.

Clothing sales increased 3 percent, while shoe sales fell 2.7 percent compared to the same month last year.

"This is far from the lift that many retail companies might have hoped for and expected. One explanation may be that Black Week is approaching and that some customers are choosing to wait until the offers start," says Sofia Larsen, CEO of Svensk Handel, according to the press release.

She also welcomes the EU's removal of duty-free access for goods under 150 euros from operators outside Europe.

“A welcome first step towards competition on equal terms,” says Larsen.
