The accident occurred on Thursday and the man was taken by ambulance helicopter to Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
According to the Swedish Climbing Association, the man fell from a height of 12-15 metres.
"The climber fell to the ground because the top three belay devices came loose in the fall. The fourth belay device, counting from the top, remained in place. However, it was placed so low that it did not catch the fall," says Robin Dahlberg of the Swedish Climbing Association's safety committee in a written statement.
