The 48-year-old was arrested after police noticed him at the Weisweiler power plant in Aachen, Tagesschau reports, citing information from DPA. Frankfurter Allgemeine writes that he was arrested during a traffic check near Weisweiler.
Police confirmed to the AFP news agency that the wanted man has been arrested.
"The man was carrying additional explosive charges at the time of his arrest but offered no resistance," police said in a statement.
A tent containing additional explosive devices was found nearby.
An intense police hunt for the 48-year-old climate activist has been ongoing for several days, after he reportedly sent a letter claiming responsibility for the sabotage attempts. During a search of the man's apartment on Friday, explosives were found.
The German electricity grid has recently been hit by several sabotage and suspected sabotage attempts where cables were placed on top of power lines at transformer stations, ostensibly to cause short circuits and affect the electricity supply to nearby coal-fired power plants.
On Monday, German police announced that a total of 21 explosive devices had been found in the investigation into the suspected attacks.
