The English football club Manchester City has been ordered to pay back most, but not all, of the approximately 160 million kronor that defender Benjamin Mendy is suing his former employer for, a British court has ruled.
The Frenchman was acquitted last year of charges of rape and sexual assault against several women. After that, he sued City, who suspended Mendy and stopped paying his salary in September 2021.
Mendy left Manchester City in June 2023, when his contract expired. He claims to have received promises from City that he would receive his salary retroactively in the event of an acquittal.
The now 30-year-old midfielder currently plays for Lorient in the French second division.
