The government's citizenship test in Swedish and social studies may be delayed, writes DN.

The authority tasked with practically implementing the exams, the Swedish Council for Universities and Higher Education (UHR), has submitted a status report to the government on how the preparations are going.

The government wants the exams to be ready to be implemented in August 2026, but according to UHR, that is not possible.

There will be no exam in Swedish with the timetable stipulated by the government. According to Stockholm University, there is no possibility of developing an exam until autumn 2028 at the earliest, Susanne Wadsborn-Taube, head of department at UHR, tells the newspaper.

Regarding the social studies exam, the assessment is that only one exam will be held in 2026, according to UHR.

Stockholm University's management has previously criticized the fact that higher education institutions should design exams for those who want to become Swedish citizens, saying that it is a "political assignment."
