ECB President Christine Lagarde wants to leave her position early to give French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz the opportunity to agree on her successor, a source told the Financial Times.
In a written comment to Bloomberg, a spokesperson for the central bank said Christine Lagarde is fully focused on her mission and has not made any decisions about when she will leave.
Christine Lagarde has an eight-year mandate that expires in October 2027.
