She has recently played the role of Aida at the prestigious Metropolitan Opera in New York for the first time. In Båstad, she replaces the Lebanese-Canadian soprano Joyce El-Khoury, who has performed the role for three years in a row during the Birgit Nilsson days.
Christina Nilsson got her breakthrough at the Royal Opera in Stockholm in 2018, precisely in the role of Aida, under Pier Giorgio Morandi, who is also directing in Båstad.
"I feel very strongly about Aida. It becomes something special when it's a debut role, and it's a role that I love to sing and portray. The more times I get to do Aida, the deeper it sinks in," she said in an interview with the magazine Opera ahead of her debut at The Met.
The Birgit Nilsson days take place this year from 3 to 9 August.
