The Scanian soprano Christina Nilsson receives the honorary title of court singer, announces the Royal Opera.

This autumn, she has played the lead role in Verdi's "Aida" at the Opera, a role that became her breakthrough both in Sweden in 2018 and earlier this year at the Metropolitan in New York.

Christina Nilsson, 35, is born and raised in Ystad. Earlier this year, she told in "Sommar" on Sveriges Radio about her path from "Scania country girl" to becoming an opera singer. This summer, she also made her debut at the festival in Bayreuth.

The honorary title of court singer was instituted by Gustav III and is still awarded by the king.
