The number of freight trains from Xi'an in central China to Tehran - via Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan - has increased from about one train per week to one train every three to four days since the US blockade was imposed on April 13, Bloomberg reports, citing sources.

At the same time, the price for shipping a standard-sized container between Xi'an and Tehran has increased by approximately 40 percent to the equivalent of SEK 65,000.

Iranian exports to China by train are currently limited, but Iranian authorities are considering using trains to transport fuel to China.

Increased capacity for train traffic between the countries this summer is also being discussed.
