China's exports rose 14.1 percent in April from a year earlier, official statistics show. That was significantly more than expected and also a solid step up from March, when the increase was 2.5 percent.
However, exports to the US have fallen since Donald Trump’s inauguration as president, reflecting his decision to impose heavy trade tariffs and strict controls on China.
China's imports rose 25.3 percent in April, a slight decline compared to March's 27.8 percent.
