Last year, 670 different banks disappeared through consolidations, among other things, the Financial Times reports. Most of these were in rural China, and the development is considered to be related to the country's economic challenges.
The world's second-largest economy has long struggled with weak domestic consumption, and China's real estate sector has also been in a crisis for several years, with falling housing prices.
