China wants to facilitate "reconciliation" between the rival Palestinian movements Hamas and Fatah, which according to reports from the news agency AFP will meet in the country later in July.
A high-ranking official within Fatah says that representatives of the movements will meet together with Chinese officials in Beijing on July 20 and 21, reports AFP.
China has always supported all parties in Palestine to achieve reconciliation through dialogue and negotiations, says the Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Lin Jian.
Fatah and Hamas have been at odds with each other since Hamas, labeled as a terrorist organization, ousted Fatah from the Gaza Strip in connection with deadly clashes that followed Hamas' election victory in 2006.
China earlier this year hosted a meeting between the two groups. Several reconciliation attempts between Hamas and Fatah have previously failed.
