China has test-fired a ballistic missile in the South Pacific, the state-run Xinhua news agency reports.
The authorities in Beijing had warned New Zealand, among others, about the test in advance, sources say.
The missile is said to have the capacity to carry nuclear weapons, but during the test firing the warhead was a dummy.
