Beijing is imposing sanctions on 20 US defense companies, including Boeing, Northrop Grumman Systems and L3Harris, and ten senior executives, Chinese authorities said.
The announcement comes days after the United States approved a major arms sale to Taiwan, worth the equivalent of about $10 billion.
The deal includes, among other things, the Himars rocket artillery system, drones and military software.
China reacted strongly to the announcement and urged the US to immediately stop the "dangerous actions" to arm Taiwan.
"Anyone who tries to cross the line and provoke on the Taiwan issue will be met with China's firm response," the Foreign Ministry writes.
According to Bloomberg, the sanctions will not have much real impact as the companies have little or no presence in China.
