Heavy rain and flooding have hit southern and central China this week, with 26 people killed when a dam at the Liulan reservoir burst and seven people missing, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.
“We never received any warning. If we had, the losses would have been much less,” says a man named Huang.
In Gantang, people pile furniture and personal belongings in the streets, while residents clean their houses after the muddy water.
600 residents of the village of Dutian, which is located near the reservoir and was directly affected when the water rose, have found shelter but are cut off from the outside world.
