The message from China comes just over three weeks after the EU Commission's decision that Chinese companies will not be allowed to participate in public procurement of medical equipment exceeding five million euros.

The EU's Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic commented then that the measures are intended to level the playing field for companies operating in the EU.

But now China is striking back with the same coin and introduces a corresponding ban for European companies.

In a press release from the Chinese Ministry of Finance, it is stated that companies from the EU are not allowed to participate in procurements exceeding 45 million yuan, which corresponds to approximately 5.3 million euros.

Established companies with capital in China are exempt from the ban.
