China fully respects Denmark's sovereignty and territorial integrity on Greenland, announced China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi in connection with his meeting with Denmark's counterpart Lars Løkke Rasmussen in China.
In this context, Wang also expressed a hope that Denmark will support China's "legitimate" positions on issues related to sovereignty and territorial integrity, it is further stated.
Lars Løkke Rasmussen confirms that Wang Yi gave this support for Greenland during their meeting. He confirms that they also discussed Taiwan.
The Danish Foreign Minister "also urged the Chinese government to exercise restraint in the Taiwan Strait and emphasized the importance of avoiding unilateral changes to the status quo".
China's government considers Taiwan to be part of China, but in practice Taiwan has been self-governing and separate since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949. In recent years, China has stepped up both diplomatic and military pressure on the Taiwan issue.
According to a press release, Løkke Rasmussen also criticized China's "deeply problematic" support for Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine.
