The negotiator Ryosei Akazawa, in daily life Japan's minister for economic revitalization, will be in Washington from Wednesday to Friday and have talks with, among others, the US finance minister Scott Bessent.

The US President Donald Trump writes in a post on his platform that he will also participate in the negotiations. He writes that "hopefully we can come up with something that is great (REALLY GREAT!) for Japan and the US!"

China is also preparing for tariff negotiations with the US and announced on Wednesday that it has appointed a special envoy who will handle the negotiations on international trade. The selected person, Li Chenggang, is also vice trade minister.
