Chill out with Christmas movies – here's the selection

December is here – and those looking to binge-watch Christmas movies don't have to look far. Here's a guide to some of them.

Classic:

"Home Alone" (SVT Play, Disney+): Macaulay Culkin plays the boy Kevin who is left behind at home over Christmas and must defend the house against burglars. The sequel "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" is also available on SVT Play.

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (Disney+): Jim Carrey stars as the furry green figure who intensely hates Christmas.

"The Tale of Karl-Bertil Jonsson's Christmas Eve" (SVT Play): On Christmas Eve, Per Åhlins and Tage Danielsson's classic film from 1975 will of course be broadcast, but the newer film version from 2021 is already available to stream.

"Love Actually" (SVT Play): The British classic follows nine different love stories before Christmas, starring Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson, among others.

“The Holiday” (Disney+): Two women swap houses over Christmas and find love on the spur of the moment. Starring Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Jack Black and Kate Winslet.

“Santa is the father of all the children” (Sky Showtime, TV4 Play): Kjell Sundvall's comedy about a large, messy Christmas family where ex-spouses meet. The cast includes Peter Haber, Suzanne Reuter, Katarina Ewerlöf and Leif Andrée.

“A Wonderful Christmas” (TV4 Play, Netflix, Disney+, SVT Play): Swedish drama about a couple trying to celebrate Christmas with their very different families.

News:

“A Merry Little Ex-Mas” (Netflix): Alicia Silverstone and Oliver Hudson play a separated couple celebrating one last Christmas together before their divorce. Their plans are complicated by old feelings and new partners.

“Jingle Bell Heist” (Netflix): Romantic comedy about a woman who becomes a petty criminal to pay the bills.

“My Secret Santa” (Netflix): A single mother tries to get a job at a ski hotel as a Santa.

“Champagne Problems” (Netflix): An American businesswoman travels to Paris at Christmas time to set up a champagne deal, and falls head over heels for the heir to the wine empire.

“We Met in December” (SVT Play): Romantic comedy about a couple who happen to meet during a layover just before Christmas. It's love at first sight, but because they haven't exchanged phone numbers, they lose touch.

Animated:

“The Polar Express” (HBO Max): Animated Christmas film about a boy who doubts Santa Claus.

“Kung Fu Panda – Winter Celebration” (Sky Showtime): Christmas special with the kind, clumsy panda Po and the rest of his gang.

Series:

"Home for Christmas" (Netflix): The third season of Netflix's first Norwegian original series about Johanne who is desperately trying to find a boyfriend for Christmas.
